Chadwick Clubhouse provides hope, social network

Through social and educational efforts, a Roseburg organization aims to end the isolation that many adults experience and provide a path to recovering from issues related to mental health and addiction.

The Chadwick Clubhouse has been serving the Douglas County community since 2018. This evidence-based, nonclinical program offers kinship and structured schedules for members to help them learn fundamental household and vocational skills and build meaningful relationships.

“We give our members the opportunity to come in and be a part of a community where we all work together on regular everyday tasks,” says David Simpson, Education and Employment Educator at Chadwick Clubhouse. “Not only are they learning responsibility, but they’re learning to stand on their own two feet and take care of themselves.”

Braxton, a member at Chadwick, says he’s gained computer skills and furthered his education. “It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he says.

Sean, another member, says socializing and working alongside others make a difference. “The most important part of this place are the relationships that are built here,” he says.

Oregon Pacific Bank not only helped get the operation off the ground but continued its support through employee fundraising and volunteer efforts, says David.

“We are thrilled for the support of Oregon Pacific Bank,” he says. “They definitely understand our needs as a nonprofit and are willing to be there for us.”

Anita Cox, OPB Branch Manager in Roseburg, says the work Chadwick is doing for the community has broad benefits. “The Chadwick Clubhouse provides a place that is special – a place that is much needed – and if we can make our nonprofits strong through volunteering, donations or offering services to help their aid, then we need to be there for them,” she says.
